Most vampire movies these days are terrible. They've swapped out the terror for the bedroom tease and gone about defanging the monster into an emo person with long canines. Such things give me strange twitches and thoughts of doing things that no one expects on their whiny butts. Like the Spanish Inquisition. With the dishwashing rack. And a spoon.

So, having a bit of spare time and an obsession with silent movies since I first saw a Buster Keaton film in its entirety... in a theater... with a live organ player... I watched the Call of Cthulhu, a modern rendition of the short story by H.P. Lovecraft done in a film style strongly reminiscent of 1920's cinema.

So I wandered over to a friend's house and they had an interesting looking movie playing called Moon. On the surface, it looked very similar to 2001: a Space Odyssey. Having a keen appreciation for Hal 2000 and his ilk, I curled myself up into a comfy chair and watched it.

I'm not particularly into stories about colonialism or imperialism. Far, far too frequently one gets exactly the same stories, but the cast of characters is from some new locale more exotic than what came before. This book was recommended to me by a friend who had read it before. Upon reading the first chapter, I realized that I had to read this. Furthermore, I would be doing myself a horrendous disservice to do otherwise.
